A Masonic wedding making history
worldwide for one Billericay couple
At Saxon Hall
t has probably never happened before – anywhere in
Iworld - and may never happen again. It is the story about
a Billericay couple and the members of a Masonic Lodge
in Southend that made their dreams come true with a very
special wedding and a night they will always remember.
For the bride, Elena Torrealba it was also the opportunity to fulfi l her deepest wish to honour the memory of her late grandfather, a
highly respected Freemason, by getting married in a Masonic Temple.
When her now husband Amador, also a Freemason, asked members of his Lodge Southend-on-Sea which meets at Saxon Hall if it was
possible, it started a chain of events that fi nally led to a glittering ceremony and celebration that combined a
traditional Lodge meeting, with a wedding and a spectacular meal afterwards on the evening of March 6th.
Even though Freemasonry is hundreds of years old it is believed that such an event has never happened
before. Traditional Lodge meetings are usually followed by a meal and sometimes wives and partners join
in – but there has never been a recorded moment when a wedding followed a Lodge meeting.
“I know my grandfather Michael would have been so happy,” said Elena. “This is what I really
wanted, to get married in a Masonic Temple and as I have no family here in the UK the Masons
at Southend have made it really special for me. Someone told me that I have been married with
45 brothers and their families wishing me well – it’s true and it has been a wonderful evening
which I will always remember.”
MASONIC DINING CLUB
very brief AGM of the Colchester Masonic Dining Club was held at the St Giles Masonic Center when Mike Rumsey having been Chairman
A for nearly three years handed the reins over to W.Bro Robert Needham.
A well attended dinner was enjoyed by all. Following the dinner our guest speaker Les Hamble, gave us an insight as to the dedication of our sub
mariners on patrol in the Artic Oceans, playing cat and mouse with any intruders. The training of the crew was such that any member could perform
any function in the operation of the submarine should any emergency arise.
A vote of thanks was given by Bob and business cards were handed out to members to provide contact information should anyone wish to join.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday the 3rd of April 2020.
