W.Bro Bill Whiter 50 Years
he year 2018 was a memorable year and double celebration for Worshipful Brother Bill Whiter
TPAGStB On 15th December 2018, Worshipful Brother Bill was presented with a certifi cate
marking his 50 years in Essex Freemasonry by Worshipful Brother John Davies PSGD at a meeting of
Dagenham Lodge No 4699 at Upminster Masonic Hall.
Bill followed his father into Dagenham Lodge, albeit his father did not propose or second him, as his father did not want
to be accused of nepotism at that time. Aged 22 years, he was initiated into masonry on the 21st December 1968 and was
pleasantly surprised to see the Lodge Secretary was his former school headmaster, W.Bro. Gus Daniels.
The presentation of his 50 year certifi cate came a month after he installed his successor to round off a memorable year.

W.Bro David Hylands 50 Years and don’t know where the 50 years have gone”
.Bro David Hylands received his 50 year certifi cate from Assistant Provincial Grand Master W.Bro. John
WDavies in March at the meeting the Lodge of St. Peter in Maldon.
As a member of the Eastbourne angling club David crewed for an old gentleman, and skippered his boat as he was almost
blind. David kept his deathbed promise to the old man (himself a mason) by being initiated into the Lodge of Light (No 2721)
in London. David has remained a member of this Lodge ever since and was Worshipful Master in 1977/78 and again in 2001/2.
David joined Isthmian Lodge (No. 4566) and was its Master four times. Unfortunately, Isthmian Lodge lost its warrant due
to falling numbers and David found a welcome home in the Lodge of St. Peter (London being too far to travel on a regular
basis). David has been in offi ce since being raised and continues to contribute. His latest role being that of Chaplin in the
Lodge of St. Peter.
On receiving the certifi cate David said “I have enjoyed every minute of my time in the craft and don’t know where the 50
years have gone”.
