Remembrance Sunday

Brethren across the Province paid tribute to our fallen hero’s
Wheel of Fellowship
Maldon
The Fallen were remembered in services across the Maldon district.
The wreath laying ceremony took place at the war memorial in Maldon High
Street at 10:30am on Remembrance Sunday.
Wing Commander Glen Mayes, Parade Marshal gathered veterans, volunteers
and school children to pay their respects.
Gosfield The Act of Remembrance was opened by Father John Dickens who lead the

crowed in the Hymn ‘O God, our Help in Ages Past’.
After the Bidding Prayer, Standards we’re dipped as the Bugler sounded
the ‘Last Post’. This was followed by the Town Mayor of Maldon, Cllr Flo
Shaughnessy who conducted The Exhortation.
After the laying of the Wreaths, the names of the fallen were read out by
representatives of local youth groups and services - this year in particular
remembering the 248 men of Maldon and Heybridge who made the ultimate
sacrifice from 1914-1919.

Chingfordd Cllr Stephen Nunn read the Dedication - Kohima Epitaph, followed by the Rev
Tony Shrimpton who lead the prayer.
Lt Jon Doyle of the Salvation Army, shared a heartfelt Address, recounting
his personal experience in spending time with 94-year-old Second World War
veteran Harry Read who earlier this year re-enacted his parachute jump into
Normandy to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
Harry Read was a 20-year-old wireless operator when he first landed on the
battlefields of northern France on 6 June 1944. After plunging into a flooded
trench near Le Mesnil, he made it through the war before going on to become
leader of the Salvation Army in the UK.
Masons from Maldon and Witham lodges, were well represented in the parade
with Worshipful Brothers Glyn Garrett, David Foster, Tony Wiley, David Payne, ,
Alan Reid, and Brother Bruce Heubner taking part with W Brother Mark Jones
laying the wreath on behalf of the Maldon Masonic Hall.
