Saffron Walden
Quiz Night
The Saffron Walden quiz night was a huge success with a larger than anticipated
turnout with individual teams from in and around Saffron Walden with additional
support coming from some of the masonic lodges that meet at Freemasons Hall,
Saffron Walden.
In the end we had a total of nine teams and over 60 participants. Shamelessly
I bullied friends to bid for the round of golf and with so many donations to
our raffle a family of 'teddy' bears with a bottle of champagne, (just in time for
Christmas), was auctioned off on the night raising additional funds.
The evening also comprised of some fun elements and a couple of games were
added with another version of 'Heads & Tails' based on answering a number
of True or False questions, played before the quiz started, the winner receiving
a bottle of eighteen year old malt whiskey and the traditional Heads & Tails
played before the raffle.
During the break all the participants were offered the opportunity to visit the
Temple upstairs and thirty or so participants took up the opportunity helping to
open up Freemasonry to the general public.
At the time of this posting £800 has been raised for FEST2022 with further pledges still to be received, coupled with many happy
people, (the most important part of any successful event), has made this event so very worthwhile to organise.
The winning team, ‘Little Walden’ led by their team captain Dave Nash will be offered the opportunity to represent Saffron Walden in
an Essex wide quiz night to be held in 2020, Dave Nash is pictured with the organiser Richard Peet.
On a personal note I’d like to thank all those who helped me before and during the quiz namely: Alan Coote, David Scammell and
Nick Turner from Audley Lodge and all the brethren that so kindly made cash donations before the night or donated prizes for the
raffle.
