                                                                            Visits the Pyrgo Lodge 5802

T he Lodge has recently completed a series of donations
amounting to £5,000 to name and train a Guide Dog Puppy.
Pyrgo was born in April and at six months old visited the Lodge in
                                                      November to meet the Brethren.
The initial training is completed by a Guide Dog Puppy Walker, who
volunteering their own time and with assistance from the Charity, home,
train and “socialise” the dog in preparation for its future training. Pyrgo
is making good progress and it is hoped that on the completion of his
training, he will become a worthy companion to and off assistance to a less

The Brethren of the Pyrgo Lodge wish Pyrgo every health and happiness
in his future career and hope that other Lodges may consider supporting
                                                      a puppy for this charity.

The TLC Appeal was formed in 1999 (by W.Bro Neil Beverley with the support of his then TLC Appeal
APGM, W.Bro. Brian Procter). Initially it was called ‘Trauma Teddies’ and was to supply
teddies to the A&E Department at Southend Hospital, as a thank you for the way they had
looked after the wife of W.Bro Ian Simpson. Such was the enthusiasm for the scheme it was
soon spread to every hospital in Essex and a Committee was formed to run it. The name was
also changed to ‘Teddies for Loving Care’.
W.Bro Ian Simpson joined the team and under his Chairmanship the appeal has grown to
include every Province in England & Wales, many in Scotland, Ireland, and New Zealand
(North Island) with others finding their way to the USA & Europe.
For the first 19 years it was run and coordinated from Essex but as it continued to grow
responsibility for running the appeal nationally has been taken up by the MCF, with each
Province running its own appeal and looking after its own hospitals. With over 2 million
teddies having been supplied to date there is no denying there is a demand for the service.

This charity is active all year round, not only at Lodge meeting, next time you are giving money to charity please consider ‘TLC Appeal
       – Essex’ and help us to keep supplying the teddies. Bank Transfer to: Lloyd's Bank; 30.97.84, 03094047. Cheques may be posted to:
