A busy start to the 2019 season for Ostrea Lodge N°8209
Arrival of the New Guard!
The year started with the Installation and it really was
a case of the Old handing over to the New when
W.Bro. Nick Nicholson (91) installed his Successor
W.Bro. Rowan Perrior (23).
Rowan became an Initiate through the United Grand
Lodge Universities Scheme and is the first student
from the scheme in Essex, to reach the Chair.
The meeting was attended by Rowan’s Father who had
travelled from Devon for the occasion and W.Bro.
Justin Bishop (left) District Coordinator for the United
Grand Lodge Universities Scheme.
Father follows in his Son’s footsteps!
W.Bro. Mike Manning (right) followed in his son’s footsteps when he was
appointed a Chapter Steward in October.
His son Matthew had been appointed Provincial Steward in March and I am
pleased to report there are no signs of
the family competition diminishing!!!
A fourth Generation Lewis!
At the November meeting, we had a
very special Initiation when W.Bro.
Robert Eels carried out the Initiation
of his son William, who makes it
three generations of the Eels family in the Lodge. This
being a very special occasion to behold particularly with the
participation in the ceremony and
festive board by both William’s Grandfathers, W.Bro. Harry Eels and W.Bro.
Rob Humphrey who are both in their eighties! W.Bro. Rob Humphrey was
Initiated into Aldborough Lodge N°5586(Upminster) so the baton was being
passed to #William all through Essex Freemasonry.
For this historic event, the Initiation of a fourth generation Lewis, invitations
The PGM surrounded by Eels were sent to many VIP guests and we were honoured by the presence of the
Provincial Grand Master RW.Bro. Rodney Lister Bass, the Past Provincial Grand RW.Bro. John
Michael Webb, the Provincial Grand Master of Cambridgeshire RW.Bro. William (Bill) Dastur, the
Deputy Provincial Grand Master VW.Bro.’s Paul Reeves and Brian Vickers, three Assistant Provincial
Grand Masters and numerous other Grand Officers. A very rare occasion in our little lodge to have 3
RW brethren, 2 VW brethren, 3APGM’s and so many other Grand Officers.
To mark the occasion the Lodge was pleased to make a donation of £390.00 to Cancer Research UK
on behalf of the PGM.
