t a recent committee meeting it was decided to fi nd a lecture for a forth coming meeting
Aand in particular something different. The DC of the lodge W.Bro Ian Wilkinson set about
fi nding such one and with his links to the local scout group found a suitable one. Seeing an
article in a free masonary magazine he managed to make contact with WBro Tony Harvey,
PAGDC The Prestonian Lecturer 2012. So it came to fruition that WBro Tony travelled down
from Nottingham to Brightlingsea to deliver the 2012 Prestonian Lecture "Scouting and
Freemasonary: two parallel organisations ?" to the forty plus attending brethren at the cluster
meeting held at the Lodge of Faith 6830 February meeting.
An interesting and very informative evening was had by all including Our visiting APGM WBro Tony White,
before retiring to the festive board where the conversations continued. Money raised from the sale of books
about the lecture, which WBro Tony duely signed for the brethren and the generous donation from the lodge
raffl e raised £415 which are were split between the Masonic Charitable Foundation and The Scout Association's
Heritage Centre project. On behalf of the lodge members WBro Ian presented WBro Tony Harvey with a lodge
fi ring glass as a reminder of the evening and visit to the lodge.

Burns Night
Albert Lucking meeting on Saturday 16th February opened promptly by W.Bro. Vic
Chivers. Following the reading of the minutes from our January meeting, W.Bro. Vic
proceeded with as a double passing ceremony. This was enhanced with the long
explanation of the working tools by Bro. Josh Vaughan and an explanation of the tracing
board by Bro. Paul Field; both presentations received the DC’s ‘call to order’ from the
brethren. We received as a new member, a long standing visitor, W.Bro. Pat Groves. Pat
expressed his thanks to his proposer and seconder and was looking forward to his time
with the lodge.
W.Bro. Clem Britton attended the meeting today and received a heartfelt rendition of ‘happy birthday’ to celebrate him reaching the age of 90! -
Following the closing of the lodge a photo (attached) was taken with Clem sitting proudly with all the members surrounding him. The brethren then
retired to what must be the lodges fi rst ever ‘Indian meal’ at Saxon Hall.

Masonic Symbols
n retiring as a school teacher in 2013 my adult children though it would
Obe a good idea to reawaken my passion of stamp collecting by buying me
some Masonic postage stamps to occupy my time. They knew I did not just stick
coloured pieces of paper on pages of a stamp album but where possible I would
research into their background and bring them to life.
There are two main types of stamps those that show Masonic symbols and those of
actual freemasons. Thinking there would only be a few of each I decide to collect both
types. How wrong could I be I have currently fi ve live albums.
In 2014 I joined the Masonic Philatelic Club who produces a superb quarterly
magazine on Masonic stamp research and collecting. They offer opportunity to
club members to present articles to be considered for future publication. I have
presented two so far with a third in the pipeline. I have also alerted the club when I
have found new stamp issues from around the world on the internet.
Presented to Canute Lodge, in the presence of W.Bro Nick Franklin APGM, a talk on
Bro Sir Stanford Fleming a Scottish Freemason who it credited amongst many other
things in designing the fi rst “Masonic postage stamp” in 1851.
