Ambresbury Lodge 5099
Ladies Festival Charity Ball
n Saturday 30 November 2019, Ambresbury Lodge No. 5099 held a Ladies Festival Charity Ball at the
Banqueting Suite, Chelmsford Race Course, presided over by W.Bro. Neil Armstrong, our current Worshipful
OMaster, and his wife Sasha. There were two objectives; to have a thoroughly good time and to raise funds
for two charities very dear to the hearts of Lucy Johnson and Karen Hedger, two friends of the President and his
lady. Both objectives were achieved with 140 in attendance and several fund raising initiatives having been planned.
The total amount raised was £4,221 and this has been equally shared between Little Havens Children’s Hospice and
Dementia UK (Supporting Essex Admiral Nurses).
On Saturday 1 February 2020 a representative from Little Havens Hospice, Andrea Wise, together with Lucy and her son
Harry were guests of the Lodge at the Loughton Masonic Centre, joining us initially for light refreshment and then in the
Temple, prior to our Regular meeting. Both Andrea and Lucy gave short talks about the Hospice, its value and their gratitude
for donations such as ours. Karen had intended to be there to speak about her experience with a close relative suffering
dementia and the relief that could now be provided by Dementia UK Essex Admiral Nurses. Unfortunately her need to be
with another sick relative prevented this but she had sent her grateful thanks for the £2,110.50 that had been donated.
This was a very pleasing outcome, demonstrating that Freemasons working together with their circle of friends, family and
colleagues can provide much needed support in our communities.
